The Campus Experience

Get a taste of life in Romania

For many international students, campus life is their first real encounter with Romania. Beyond lectures and classrooms, the campus becomes the place where friendships begin, communities are built, and a sense of belonging starts to take shape. In Romania, universities welcome students with functional, well-equipped campuses, where comfort, safety, and accessibility are top priorities.

Campus culture and student experiences

01.

Most higher education institutions offer accommodation in student dormitories, located either on campus or within walking distance of the main academic buildings. Rooms are typically shared by two or three students and come with either shared or private bathrooms. Compared to other European countries, the prices are remarkably affordable – ranging between €60 and €120 per month. These fees usually include all utilities: hot water, electricity, heating, and internet. Additionally, many dormitories are equipped with laundry rooms, study areas, 24/7 security, and keycard access.

02.

A standout example is the Regie campus in Bucharest, part of Politehnica University, which houses thousands of students in a nearly self-contained complex. Restaurants, cafés, pharmacies, gyms, and supermarkets are all within a short walking distance. The atmosphere is vibrant and multicultural, with green spaces and summer terraces contributing to a relaxed and friendly environment. Similar vibes can be found in other university cities such as Cluj-Napoca, Brașov, Iași, and Timișoara, where student life is lively and interactive, supported by clubs, social events, themed dinners, and cultural initiatives that bring Romanian and international students together.

03.

University canteens also play an important role in daily campus life. Meals are budget-friendly – typically around €2 to €4 – and menus often cater to a variety of dietary needs, including vegetarian options. At the same time, campuses or nearby areas are home to numerous cafés, eateries, and coworking spaces where students can relax, socialize, or study.

Many campuses also provide access to modern sports facilities, including football and tennis courts, fitness rooms, swimming pools, and even yoga studios. Students are encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities, and the available infrastructure supports a healthy balance between academic life and personal well-being.

Ultimately, a Romanian campus is much more than a place to sleep or attend classes – it’s a miniature community, with its own rhythm and culture. For international students, it quickly becomes a second home: a safe, dynamic, and open environment where cultural boundaries fade and meaningful experiences naturally unfold. Romania offers not only a reasonable cost of living, but also a warm, authentic space where students can grow – academically, socially, and personally.
